Mike Mech, The Bungalow Chef

The Bungalow Kitchen Blog

Mike Mech, The Bungalow Chef, is in the storytelling business and food is his trusted muse. Mike believes every recipe has a story and his Bungalow Kitchen anecdotes include memorable family occasions, the history of old and new ingredients, last minute food gathering suggestions with close friends and more. Each of his brief tales includes a sweet or savory recipe that embraces today’s ingredient driven culinary profile

Having grown up in an area surrounded by classic Chicago bungalows, Mike renovated the 1926 bungalow he lives in today. He deeply respects the character details of yesterday and appreciates how contemporary amenities, just like updated recipe ingredients, make something old…something new.

What's in a Name

In a neighborhood that was filled with Chicago style bungalows, Mikes childhood home was where family and friends gathered for just about every occasion and where he first learned to cook from multiple generations of home chefs. Remembering his treasured roots, Mike purchased his own bungalow years ago and since then, he’s been stirring up memories one recipe at a time.
